Fine Pet Portraits by Kat
Commissioning a portrait is simple.
- Choose the size of portrait and photos you want to work with.
- Send pictures to me at the address below
- We talk together, and after a short while (2-3 weeks) I send you a one of a kind original work of art.
The fee for a commissioned portrait varies according to size and complexity of your photo reference.
All portraits are done using oils on canvas/ panel
(Drawings in charcoal/graphite/ink available, fees vary, contact for more information)
Photography.
Natural light is the best inside by a window. Take several close-up "Headshots" into the subjects eyes. Get down to your pet's eye level. At a point where you're looking up at them. Be playful to show pets personality. Think about when your subject is in their element, when their personality is shining the most. This is where and when you'll get the best photos. Usually it's best to have the flash turned off and take a lot of pictures at least 25 -50.
If you're within 75 miles of the Midcoast area of Maine (Rockland, Rockport, Camden etc.) I would be glad to come by and do some quick sketches and take photos at no extra cost.

Timeline
Work begins after I receive 50% of the agreed to price of the painting. The remaining 50% of the fee is due upon completion and acceptance of the finished portrait. Standard Portraits normally take 2-3 weeks depending on my workload. Ask about rush service for birthday's or special gifts.
Posthumous Portraits
Many of my commissions are from pets that have passed on. Share your photos of your beloved pet with me, and I'll recreate a magical portrait that captures their essence for you.
Framing and Preservation
I follow archival methods to protect and preserve my work. For an additional cost I can have your work of art framed. Ask me for more details.
